🐚 About Charnette Labs
Who does Charnette Labs build for? +
We build exclusively for tourism and travel businesses — hotels, boutique properties, safari lodges and tented camps, tour operators, and DMCs. We work across the UK, Africa and international markets.
Do you actually understand the travel industry? +
Yes. Charnette Labs was founded by a former travel industry professional with years in luxury safari and travel sales. We built RepBud — the AI-powered CRM for travel reps. You won't spend time explaining your world to us. We already know what a FAM trip is, how OTA commission works, and why a lodge in Laikipia needs its website to load on a satellite connection.
Where is Charnette Labs based? +
Charnette Labs is the trading name of Charnette Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales with a London registered address. We work with tourism businesses across the UK, Africa, Australia and internationally.
Why choose Charnette Labs over a generic web agency? +
Because we come from the travel industry. A generic agency needs educating — you'll spend hours in briefing meetings explaining what a DMC is, how rate structures work, why your safari site needs to load in Nairobi as fast as it loads in London. We already know all of this. That saves you time, money and frustration.
🌊 Website Design
How much does a tourism website cost? +
Our websites start from £1,500 for a boutique property site through to £8,000+ for complex tour operator platforms. Every project is quoted individually after a discovery conversation. Monthly hosting and maintenance plans start from £35/month.
How long does it take to build a tourism website? +
A typical tourism website takes 4–8 weeks from briefing to launch. A boutique hotel site can be live in 4 weeks. A full tour operator platform with itinerary systems and booking integration takes 8–12 weeks.
Can I update my website myself? +
Yes. We can build on a CMS that lets you update text, photos and content yourself. Many clients prefer to leave updates to us as part of their monthly hosting plan — included in our Growth and Pro plans.
Do you build on WordPress? +
We build on the right platform for your needs — which might be a custom-built site on Cloudflare Pages, a headless CMS, or WordPress depending on your requirements. We'll recommend what's right for you, not what's easiest for us.
Can you integrate my booking system? +
Yes. We integrate with the major tourism booking systems — Rezdy, FareHarbor, Beds24, Little Hotelier, Airtable and custom solutions. We'll connect your booking engine so guests can book directly from your site without leaving it.
🔔 Push Notifications
What's the open rate for push notifications vs email? +
Push notifications typically achieve 90%+ open rates compared to 18–22% for marketing emails in travel. That's 4–5x more people actually seeing your message.
Do guests need to download an app? +
No. Web push notifications work directly through a guest's browser — Chrome, Safari, Firefox — on desktop and mobile. No app download required. App push notifications require your branded app, which we also build.
How much does it cost to send a push notification? +
Once the system is set up, sending push notifications costs nothing per send. There are no per-message fees. You pay a one-time setup fee and optional monthly management.
Is it GDPR compliant? +
Yes. Push notifications require explicit opt-in consent — guests actively click "Allow" to receive them. This makes them fully GDPR compliant with clear consent on record.
How do push notifications help reduce OTA commission? +
OTAs charge 15–25% per booking. Push notifications let you reach past guests directly with last-minute availability and exclusive direct rates. Every direct booking saves you that commission. Over a year, savings typically far exceed the cost of the system.
🦀 App Development
Do I need an app or is a website enough? +
For most hotels and lodges, a great mobile-first website is the right starting point. An app becomes valuable when you want offline access, in-app booking, push notifications, digital room keys, or a richer guest experience. We'll give you an honest recommendation.
What types of apps do you build? +
Guest experience apps (property information, booking, concierge), pre-arrival and in-stay communication apps, staff operations tools, and B2B apps for tour operator trade teams. iOS and Android, built with offline capability for remote lodge environments.
How much does an app cost? +
App development starts from £5,000 for a straightforward guest information app through to £25,000+ for a full booking and operations platform. We'll scope your project and give you a clear quote after an initial conversation.
🪸 Hosting & Monthly Care
What's included in monthly hosting? +
All plans include Cloudflare global CDN hosting, SSL certificate, security monitoring and daily backups. Growth and Pro plans include content update hours, monthly performance reports and priority support. No call centres — direct developer access.
Can you host a site you didn't build? +
Yes — if it's compatible with our hosting infrastructure. We'll review your existing site and let you know. Some legacy systems may need rebuilding first.
What happens if my site goes down? +
You contact us directly. No ticket queue, no chatbot, no call centre. On Pro plans, issues are resolved within 4 business hours. Cloudflare's infrastructure has 99.9%+ uptime globally, so outages are rare.
🗺️ Industries & Specific Situations
Can you build a website for a safari lodge in Africa? +
Yes — it's something we specialise in. Safari lodge websites need to load fast on slow connections, look stunning on high-resolution screens, and communicate the emotion of the experience. We've built for lodges across East and Southern Africa.
Do you work with DMCs? +
Yes. DMC websites have specific needs — trade-facing and consumer-facing content, destination coverage, team bios, itinerary showcases. We understand the B2B dynamics of DMC relationships and build sites that work for both audiences.
We're a small tour operator — is Charnette Labs right for us? +
Absolutely. We work with independent operators and boutique businesses. In fact, the businesses that benefit most from our work are exactly this — independent, quality-focused operators who need technology that punches above their weight.
What's the connection between Charnette Labs and RepBud? +
RepBud is our flagship SaaS product — an AI-powered CRM for travel industry representatives. Charnette Labs is the studio that also builds websites, apps and systems for tourism businesses. Both are products of Charnette Ltd.
